Viator Media partners with the Asociación de Vecinos Fray Hernando de Talavera to revive the historic Camino Real de Guadalupe

May 22nd, 2024 - Viator Media is pleased to announce its collaboration with the Asociación de Vecinos Fray Hernando de Talavera, the organization spearheading efforts to revive the historic Camino Real de Guadalupe. This iconic pilgrimage route, once the most popular in Spain for more than two centuries, will reclaim its place as a significant cultural and spiritual journey with new initiatives to bring it to the attention of today's travelers and pilgrims.

The Camino Real de Guadalupe was one of the most important pilgrimage routes in the 15th and 16th centuries, connecting different regions of Spain to the Monastery of Guadalupe in Extremadura. With origins in both Madrid and Titulcia (Toledo/Aranjuez), the route stretches 257 kilometers from Madrid, passing through important towns such as Alcorcón, Móstoles, and Talavera de la Reina. Pilgrims pass through scenic and historic towns such as Alberche, Oropesa, Puente del Arzobispo and Navatrasierra, before reaching the stunning Monastery of Guadalupe, a UNESCO World Heritage Site.

The path, historically known as the “camino real”, was a royal route protected from private ownership or alteration. Over the centuries it became a vital artery for trade, travel and spiritual pilgrimage, and today it is being revived to reconnect modern travelers with Spain’s rich historical past.

Viator Media will bring its expertise in cultural storytelling to this collaboration, promoting the Camino Real de Guadalupe as a must-visit destination for those seeking an immersive, historically significant journey. The project will highlight the importance of the route not only as a religious pilgrimage, but also as a path traveled by Romans, Arabs, and countless notable travelers throughout history.

“We are honored to work with the Asociación de Vecinos Fray Hernando de Talavera to breathe new life into the Camino Real de Guadalupe,” said Silvia Costantini, chief communications and institutional relations officer for Viator Media. “This collaboration will help modern pilgrims and history buffs alike discover Spain's profound spiritual and cultural heritage through one of its most important pilgrimage routes.”
